Moana 2: An Exciting Sequel with New Adventures and Familiar Faces

Moana 2 (also known as Vaiana 2 or Oceania 2 in some regions) is the highly anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2016 hit Moana. This animated musical adventure is set to continue the journey of Moana and her demigod friend Maui. She now joined by new allies and facing fresh challenges. Directed by David Derrick Jr. Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, the film brings back the beloved characters and introduces new ones. Premise

The story picks up three years after the events of the first film. Moana receives a call from her wayfinding ancestors. Prompting her to gather a new crew for an adventure across the vast seas of Oceania. Moana must break a curse placed on the hidden island of Motufetu. This is a place that once united the people of the ocean. Along the way, they will face familiar foes like the Kakamora and new threats such as the underworld goddess Matangi.

Cast

Auliʻi Cravalho reprises her role as Moana, alongside Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Other returning cast members include Temuera Morrison as Moana’s father, Tui, and Nicole Scherzinger as her mother, Sina. New characters include Moana’s little sister Simea (voiced by Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda). The members of Moana’s crew: Loto (Rose Matafeo), Kele (David Fane), and Moni (Hualālai Chung). Rachel House returns as the spirit of Tala, while Awhimai Fraser voices the mysterious antagonist Matangi. Alan Tudyk also returns as the beloved rooster, Heihei.

Development and Production

The journey to Moana 2 began as a long-form streaming series titled Moana: The Series for Disney+. The project was reworked into a theatrical film. David Derrick Jr. taking the reins as both writer and director. Joining him are Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller as co-directors. Music will once again be composed by Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foai. Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear stepping in as songwriters, replacing Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Animation for Moana 2 is handled by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Vancouver studio. This movie marking a milestone as the first feature film produced there. Mark Henn and Eric Goldberg, veterans of the animation world, are supervising the animation of Maui’s iconic tattoos.

Music

The Moana 2 soundtrack promises to be a musical highlight, with several new songs that reflect Moana’s growth and journey. Auliʻi Cravalho, who voices Moana, expressed her excitement about working with the new songwriting duo Barlow and Bear, noting that their music will explore deeper emotions, especially during moments of indecision. Release

Moana 2 is set to hit theaters on November 27, 2024. It bringing fans back into the rich world of Oceania for another unforgettable adventure. The soundtrack will be released on November 22, 2024. It offering a taste of the musical journey that lies ahead.
